I am a photographer and filmmaker from Macclesfield, Cheshire. My photography is rooted in our relationship with the outdoors. Living in the city and from a farming background, I constantly feel the pull of rural or semi-rural places and hope to capture something of this in my work. The collection is about reconnection and rhythm. Taken over the course of six years and across continents, these are simple moments of stopping, looking, appreciating and distilling a moment in time. All images were taken on 35mm cameras that were given to me as gifts or found. Somewhere in there is a sense of continuing a legacy, or fulfilling a belief set by someone else.
The collection below entitled ‘Slow’ is rather apt and perhaps reflects on people and their lives at the moment. (COVID-19 Lockdown spring/summer 2020) In our normal lives many people, strive to live in a slower and perhaps more meaningful way.. Slow is a relative term, and you can only really know it or appreciate it when you’ve experienced fast. I love living fast too. But I suppose what I am aspiring to, or what I hope the photographs aspire to, is the freedom of choice over fast or slow. There’s a whole generation saddled with anxiety, looking left or right, not wanting to be left behind. As a result, we’re charging headlong at the next milestone but, when we get there, it’s never quite enough. I think rampant capitalism has a lot to answer for here, to the decline of consciousness. So, I suppose the collection is about finding the blissful moment where you can feel confident, secure and free.
